This year marked continued momentum for UVic Engineering and Computer Science. With growing enrolment, new professional programs, expanded facilities, and strengthened partnerships, ECS remains grounded in its mission: advancing knowledge that serves people, communities, and the planet. We are building a culture defined by equity, stewardship, and real-world impact.

Sustainability, Truth and Reconciliation, inclusive excellence, and student experience shape everything we do. We are committed to advancing clean energy and climate resilience, strengthening Indigenous engagement and supporting Engineers Canada’s 30×30 initiative in order to build pathways where diverse learners thrive and innovation reflects responsibility, respect, and long-term impact.

Our seven undergraduate programs, research-based graduate degrees, professional MEng specializations, and Canada’s first Doctor of Engineering offer depth and breadth in engineering and computer science. Mandatory co-op and hands-on learning ensure graduates leave not only technically strong, but career-ready and industry-connected.

ECS researchers are advancing human-centred AI, sustainable energy systems, health technologies, aerospace innovation, and resilient infrastructure. With $20M in annual funding and growing global partnerships, our work bridges discovery and application by translating ideas into technologies, companies, and solutions that serve communities locally and worldwide.

From 30+ student design teams and co-op partnerships to global alumni leadership and K–12 outreach reaching thousands of youth annually, ECS is a vibrant, connected community. Students, alumni, industry, and donors work together to turn learning into leadership and innovation into meaningful societal impact.

ECS is home to 3,000+ undergraduates, 600+ graduate students, 30+ clubs and teams, and 2,000 co-op placements annually. With 13,000+ alumni worldwide and research ranked among Canada’s top institutions, our growth reflects sustained excellence in education, innovation, and community engagement.

A new faculty strategic plan, major capital expansion, expanded professional programs, and strengthened AI leadership signal the next era of ECS. As we grow in scale and impact, our focus remains clear: transformative learning, purposeful research, inclusive culture, and partnerships that shape a sustainable, human-centred future.
